📜📜“`TEXT:2 CHRONICLES 24:1-14“`📜📜

🔑📖“`KEY VERSE:“` _*”And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the house of the LORD” (2 CHRONICLES 24:4).

The life of the Jewish nation in Bible days was unbreakably tied to the temple. It connected them to God, who chose them as His people. So, the first task of every God-fearing leader in power was invariably to examine the condition of the house of the Lord and seek its upgrade according to the Law of Moses.

The young newly crowned king of Judah, Joash, inherited a temple that had not received the attention it deserved under the administrations of his predecessors, notably in the six years of Athaliah, the usurper. Being just on the throne for the sake of vindictive power, she was not “minded to repair the house of the LORD”. But Joash, under the tutelage of the godly priest Jehoiada, remembered the tradition of the patriarchs who never failed to rehabilitate the tabernacle of God.

Gathering the priests and Levites, the king asked them to raise money from all over the land for the restoration of dignity to the temple, which had been “broken up” by the sons of Athaliah. He rebuked the Levites when they were slack, and got the work on a speedy course again with remarkable results. Much money came in for the project, and “the workmen wrought, and the work was perfected… and they set the house of God in his state, and strengthened it”.

The Church and its heavenly-focused leaders and members must be like Joash in his early days on the throne. We must ensure we put work for God first in our Christian life. Leaders must monitor projects as they also participate in them like other members. All the body of Christ must be encouraged to give money, skill and time for God’s work.
