SCRIPTURE READING: PSALM 25
David, in today’s Psalm, seeks guidance and salvation for himself and Israel. He earnestly seeks forgiveness and relies on God to deliver him from his enemies.

REFLECTION
One of the fundamental purposes of counselling is to seek guidance when a person is faced with a conundrum of issues in his or her life. David seems to be struggling with the ramifications of his sins and at the same had to deal with the conspiracy of his enemies against his life. He needed to depend on God to overcome the depression and overwhelming burden of guilt and attack from his enemies.

My dear friend, David teaches and encourages us that when we are overwhelmed with the consequences of our own actions and we are further being attacked by our enemies, we can always turn to God for guidance and deliverance. In Psalm 25:5 David says, ” Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you, I wait all day long”

Lent season, offers us the opportunity to seek guidance from God especially in overcoming our fleshly desires. To seek quality guidance that comes from God, we need to become addicted to the meditation of Scripture and prayer. When Jesus fasted 40 days and 40 nights in the wilderness according to Luke 4:1-13, he totally relied on Scripture for guidance and was able to overcome the temptations of Satan. When we undertake seriously the spiritual exercises of prayer, fasting, and Biblical meditation we shall experience spiritual growth, divine wisdom and discernment and will be able to overcome any temptation that comes away through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.

Again, our relationship with God is deepened and He shields us from the evil plots of our enemies. Let us journey through the lent season seeking guidance through prayer, fasting, and meditating on the Word of God. Amen.

LORD GOD, THANK YOU FOR YOUR GUIDANCE. TEACH ME YOUR WAYS THAT I MAY HUMBLY LEARN YOUR TRUTH, AND REMAIN HONEST BEFORE YOU – CONFIDENT IN YOUR LOVE
